27th ICOM General Conference 11th to 17th November 2025 Dubai World Trade Centre Dubai, UAE

Welcome Message

Emma Nardi
President of International Council of Museums
ICOM

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the online portal for the 27th ICOM General Conference (11 to 17 November 2025). The General Conference is the highlight of our triennial calendar and for the first time, this year, it will take place in the Arab Region.

Our wonderful host for this event is the magnificent city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, which perfectly complements the theme of this year’s conference: ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities’. Together we will explore this broad theme through three very topical sub-themes: Intangible Heritage, Youth Power and New Technologies.

Emma Nardi

Each ICOM General Conference is unique and it is the result of many years of close collaboration with our local partners, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to The National Committee of ICOM in the United Arab Emirates (ICOM UAE), The Organising Committee for the ICOM General Conference 2025, and Professional Conference Organisers (PCO) for their invaluable contributions to what I am sure will be a very successful and enjoyable event.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Dubai!

Hala Badri
Director General, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Chairperson of ICOM Dubai 2025 Organising Committee

Dubai is proud to host ICOM Dubai 2025, marking the first time the prestigious ICOM General Conference will take place in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. This
milestone reflects a shared commitment to culture, innovation, and the transformative power of knowledge, bringing together museum professionals, cultural practitioners, and creative communities from around the world.

Museums play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage, fostering dialogue, and connecting communities. They serve as platforms for celebrating diverse identities, amplifying underrepresented voices, and promoting inclusivity in an ever-changing world.

Hala Badri

Under the theme  ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,’  ICOM Dubai 2025 will explore how museums can safeguard intangible heritage, channel youth power, and embrace new technologies to remain dynamic and relevant. The conference will feature a rich scientific programme with keynote addresses, interactive discussions, and a tailored social programme offering an immersive journey through the UAE’s diverse cultural and historical landscape.

Shared perspectives and collaboration are at the heart of ICOM Dubai 2025. Whether attending in person or virtually, every participant plays a role in shaping the future of museums and the communities they serve.

The future is now — let’s explore it together in Dubai. Looking forward to welcoming you!
